Bradford holds world's first skin epigenetics conference

Did you know that underneath their patterns, zebras and cheetahs both have dark skin - even in the places where their fur is pale.

This was just one of the areas under discussion at the world’s first ever international scientific conference focused on skin epigenetics, held by the Centre for Skin Sciences at the University of Bradford in April 2012, entitled Epigenetic Control of Skin Development and Regeneration. Epigenetics is a branch of genetics that studies the interpretation of DNA sequences, which controls the formation of different cell types. More specifically, epigenetics determines how different genes are switched on and off in cells.

This emerging area of science is crucial to increasing our understanding of cellular processes and how these influence our health, wellbeing and appearance and provides the opportunity to identify new targets for the treatment of common diseases. The conference brought together skin biologists with scientists studying epigenetic mechanisms to share information and research to develop this area of study within skin science.  Read on.....

Our thanks to all the presenters, delegates, sponsors and exhibitors for making this symposium a huge success. See photos...
